The Midnight Adventure of the Horror Boys
Leo and Max were best friends who loved everything spooky. They read scary comic books, wore monster t-shirts, and proudly called themselves the "Horror Boys." But one Friday night, they decided that reading about monsters wasn't enough. They wanted a real adventure.
Grabbing their flashlights, the two boys bravely marched into the dense, dark jungle behind their neighborhood.
The Spooky Sounds
The jungle looked completely different late at night. The tall shadows of the trees stretched out like giant, twisting claws. It was very dark, and it was very loud. As they walked deeper into the thick vines, they began to hear all sorts of creepy noises:
HOOOO-HOOOO! An owl hooted from a high branch, sounding like a ghostly warning.
SNAP! CRACK! Dry twigs broke under the feet of unseen creatures creeping in the bushes.
SWISSSSH... The cold wind blew through the leaves, sounding exactly like whispering voices.
Max grabbed Leo’s sleeve. "Did you hear that?" he whispered, his flashlight shaking just a little bit.
"We are the Horror Boys," Leo reminded him, puffing out his chest. "We aren't scared!"
The Crooked Cabin
Suddenly, the trees cleared away to reveal a creepy, crooked little wooden cabin. It looked like it had been sitting in the jungle for a hundred years. The roof was sagging, the wood was rotting, and strangest of all—a weird, glowing green light was shining from the dusty windows.
They had found a real horror house!
The boys tiptoed up to the front door and peeked through a crack in the wood, expecting to see something terrifying. Instead, they couldn't believe their eyes.
The Two Ghosts
Inside the cabin lived two real, floating, see-through ghosts!
But they weren't doing anything scary. One ghost, who was shaped like a giant marshmallow and wore a dusty top hat, was trying to play a piano that made no sound. The other ghost, who was tall and skinny, was floating upside down near the ceiling, laughing.
"You are playing the wrong notes again, Barnaby!" chuckled the skinny ghost, his voice echoing like a hollow tin can.
"It's hard to play when my fingers go right through the keys, Pip!" Barnaby the ghost sighed.
Leo was so surprised that he accidentally leaned too hard against the door. CREEEEEAK.
The door swung wide open. The two boys froze. The two ghosts froze.
For a second, it was perfectly quiet. Then, Barnaby the ghost tipped his dusty top hat and smiled a wide, glowing smile.
"Oh, visitors!" Barnaby cheered, floating down to the floor. "We haven't had guests in a hundred years! We've been practicing our scary moans, but honestly, it gets quite boring. Do you boys want to hear a joke?"
The Horror Boys looked at each other and started to laugh. The scary jungle and the haunted house weren't actually that scary after all. They spent the next hour sitting in the crooked cabin, trading silly jokes with Barnaby and Pip, the two friendliest ghosts in the jungle, before finally safely hiking back home.
