Days turned into weeks. Sunny drank lots of water from the soil and ate lots of sunshine. The tiny shoot turned into a thick, strong, fuzzy green stalk. More and more leaves grew. Sunny was now a big, healthy Adult Plant, standing tall and proud in the garden, swaying gently in the wind.

Stage 4: The Beautiful Bloom (The Flower)

One morning, something new appeared at the very top of Sunny’s tall stalk. It looked like a tight green ball. It was a bud!

Slowly, the bud began to open. Bright yellow petals unfolded one by one, like rays of sunshine. Sunny had become a beautiful Flower! Buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies came to visit, drinking sweet nectar and carrying golden pollen from flower to flower.

Stage 5: The Circle of Life (Making New Seeds)

As the warm summer ended and the crisp autumn air arrived, Sunny's yellow petals began to dry up and flutter away in the wind. But Sunny wasn't sad, because something amazing was happening right in the center of the flower.

The center had turned into hundreds of brand new, black-and-white striped seeds!

Eventually, the big sunflower bowed its head, and the new little seeds tumbled down into the soft soil. They snuggled into the dirt, ready to sleep through the cold winter. When spring returns, the rain will fall, the sun will shine, and the magical plant lifecycle will begin all over again!
